Orthopedics and Traumatology

Orthopedics and Traumatology

The main structures that make up the musculoskeletal system, which play the most important role in our daily life activities; bones, muscles, joints, ligaments, tendons and nerves. The Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology aims to protect the musculoskeletal system from diseases and injuries as well as providing services for the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of diseases and injuries developing in the musculoskeletal system.

In the field of Orthopedics and Traumatology, Medlife Medical Center provides diagnosis and treatment services to our patients using modern medical imaging methods and medical technologies.

Orthopedics and Traumatology, which works in coordination with other fields of medicine such as Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, operates in a very wide area, in parallel with the progress of medicine and technology, it is divided into special sub-branches. Each of these branches requires different features, techniques and experience:

Traumatology:  Trauma; It often comes with a surprise due to factors such as falling, sports injury, work accident or traffic accident. The damage can range from a simple soft tissue crush to comminuted fractures of large bones, depending on the severity of the trauma.

Arthroscopy and Sports Injuries (Knee, Shoulder, Ankle, Wrist and other joints) The  literal meaning of arthroscopy is the visualization of the joint with the help of a camera. The development of arthroscopic methods enables the surgical procedures to be performed with much less soft tissue damage compared to the old open surgeries, thus allowing the patient to return to his/her daily life after surgery with less pain and in a shorter time.

Arthroplasty; In diseases of the joints that result in cartilage damage (osteoarthritis), it deals with the renewal or repair of cartilage surfaces in large joints such as hips, knees and shoulders with prosthesis (which may consist of special plastic, ceramic and metal combinations) or biological materials.

Foot and Ankle Surgery Foot and  ankle surgery, which is one of the most developed sub-branches of recent years, deals with the treatment of degenerative diseases of the foot and ankle, toes, sports injuries, fractures, ligament tears, cartilage injuries.

Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery and Microsurgery;  It provides the planning, arrangement and implementation of diagnosis and treatment of patients with hand, wrist and forearm problems by using modern technical methods and uses this method in cases that require microsurgery.             Shoulder and Elbow Surgery  deals with the treatment of arthrosis of the shoulder and elbow, rotator cuff diseases, recurrent dislocations, overuse or trauma-related diseases with arthroscopic and open surgical methods.

Pediatric Orthopedics and Traumatology; Children under 16 years of age with congenital hip dislocation, clubfoot, cerebral palsy (motor and in some cases mental disorders resulting from damage to the brain for any reason during or after birth), congenital deformities (structural disorders), flat feet, tumors, developmental disorders and deals with the follow-up and treatment of fractures.

Spine Surgery (Spinal Surgery); Congenital or acquired lateral curvatures of the spine (scoliosis), anterior curvature or kyphosis (humpback) and Schuermann’s kyphosis, spondylolisthesis, spinal stenosis and degenerative (calcification-related) problems that occur with aging of the spine, ankylosing spondylitis, osteoporosis (bone loss and bone loss) deals with the treatment of fractures. Vertebral fractures and dislocations, all kinds of infections of the spine, tumors involving the spine and their treatment are included in the field of spine surgery.

Orthopedic Oncology ; It is a branch of orthopedics that deals with the treatment of benign or malignant tumors that involve bone, muscle and soft tissues in the movement system.

In addition to all these, regenerative medicine  (PRP, stem cell, etc.) and  complementary medicine in recent years  applications have begun to play an important role in the treatment of musculoskeletal diseases and injuries, sports injuries, and in shortening the recovery period and sometimes delaying the need for surgery. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a platelet-rich blood product obtained from the patient’s own blood, used to reduce pain and accelerate healing while preserving tissue functions. The aim is to provide and accelerate the natural phases of the healing process by giving platelet-rich plasma to the damaged area. Since the person’s own blood products are used, side effects and complication rates are extremely low when applied properly.
